MDP on Export Promotion


PGDM- International Business Department has organised a 5-day Management Development Programme on "Export Promotion" in association with MSME- Development Institute New Delhi, Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (Govt. of India) from 27th January,2020 to 31st January, 2020 at JIMS, Rohini. A total number of 70 students from PGDM/PGDM-IB/PGDM-RM participated in the workshop.

The objective of the MDP was to give insight about how to Start EXPORT-IMPORT Business, Getting IE Code, Product and Market Selection, Product Pricing, Finding Buyers, INCOTERMS, Shipping, Logistic & Customs Clearance, LC and Payment Methods, Insurance Coverage, Pre & Post Shipment Documentation, Export Promotion Schemes, Export Finance etc.

Day 1 started with the welcome address by Dr. Pooja Jain, Director JIMS welcoming esteem guests from MSME for the day followed by a session by Dr. Amit Maheshwari, a motivational speaker who gave the day an energetic start and motivated students by giving them insights on exports v/s domestic trade. The other two sessions for the day were taken by Mr. Sharad (Rtd Head of Forex, Punjab National Bank) who holds 35 years plus experience in foreign exchange and gave imprints on methods of Payment, risk related to various Payment Systems, Documentary Collection, hedging the Risk in different Payment System, responsibility of buyer and seller under different terms and usage of INCOTERMS.

Day 2

Second day was focused on marketing perspectives on ECGC and Risk cover, different countries and different cultures, avoiding misunderstandings, potential products, potential markets and marketing strategies. These sessions were taken by a speaker from MSME ???and Dr. Yukti Ahuja, Dean PGDM International Business. The idea was to aware the students on latest changes in market scenarios and ways through which one can tap cost effective and innovative means to promote their products across the globe.

Day 3

It was all and all taken by Mr. Amit Budhiraja, passionate for Integrating SMEs into global Value Chain and his Areas of Expertise Improving Companies Global Supply Chain Performance, global Trade Compliance International Business Strategy Global Business Development, Agriculture Export Expert ,Cross Border Trade ,Import Export Strategy and International Trade Logistics.

He illustrated various practical examples on storage of goods subjected to volumes, types of carriages for various goods and best fit for different types of goods. He also commented on strategies for supply chain logistics depending on various terms and conditions and genre of good.

Day 4

Second last day gave insights on various international and national bodies assisting International Trade in various forms. The day was in the name of Mr. Anil Sareen who highlighted the difference between these bodies and ways they differ in facilities. His areas of interest include hedging of exchange fluctuation risk and exchange control regulations for exports. He also broadly shared various promising products that India can boost the industry and repair dents on fiscal deficit. He mentioned the importance of foreign policy and expressed deeply on Export-Import in relation to pre and post liberalization.

Day 5

Last day was kept for session on stringent methods for arranging pre-shipment finance and post shipment finance. It started and ended with Mr. Amit Bagga who is a CA by profession and runs his own company, apart from which holds years of experience of working in various big MNCs. His sessions largely talked on letters of credit, types and purpose treated. He laid down various ways on how banks plays a role of intermediary and can bridge the gap of finance in numerous ways and also explained how banks channel the funds into most productive ways. At last, he edified on how business is conducted in normal domain and its associated principles.

Overall, Students had a live experience on how international trade can boost a country's future and theirs too and paving ways through various untapped resources.
