Jagan Institute of Management Studies organized an interactive session on the topic “Opportunities in Insurance Sector” on 24th August, 2013 for the students of PGDM (General/IB/RM) of Batch 2012-14. The welcome note was by Dr J.K Goyal, Director, JIMS where he mentioned that decision making is all about having risk and there are two types of risks; Insurable risk and Non- Insurable Risk. He further said that Insurance is a cost not an investment; Cost by which you can guard against uncertainties. He further threw the event open for discussion.
The panelist for the session were from elite backgrounds; Mr. P. C. Tripathi, Zonal Manager, Bajaj Allianz, Mr. Sanjay Mathur, Business Head - Delhi-NCR / U.P., Royal Sundaram Alliances Insurance, Mr. Guru Charan Singh Gandhi, Corporate-VP & Head Change Management, Max Life Insurance, Dr. Mukul Jain, Sr. Faculty, Banking & Insurance and Mr. Rohit Gupta, Branch Manager, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Alumni of JIMS.
Dr. Mukul Jain moderated and initiated the discussion, starting with insurance i.e. general and life insurance. He further highlighted the meaning of getting insured and the aspect of financial planning. He quoted that “if you invest early it would help you”.
Further Mr. Tripathi from Bajaj Allianz said that youngsters are looking forward for a decent career in the Insurance sector; FDI in insurance sector is a win for all. He opined that there are various job opportunities in Insurance sector i.e Marketing, HR, Operations and that there is immense scope in them.
Mr. Gurucharan Singh Gandhi enlightened the audience with his humoristic punches and advised students to explore new dimensions and credentials present in the insurance sector.
Also, Mr. Atul Jerath added that “MBA is a generalist sector and said that Insurance sector is not all about sales. He said that there is an immense scope and there is a large amount of penetration, scope and growth in the sector.
Lastly Mr. Sanjay from Royal Sundaram added that insurance is a sector that generates Employment as well as entrepreneurship.
The students keenly participated in the Question and Answer Session. Further, our speakers were appreciated through a token of remembrance- mementoes. The vote of thanks was delivered by the students and overall, it was an educative and interactive session both for the students as well as the faculty of JIMS.
