DesignVerse: A UI/UX Design Challenge

The TeKQbe Club, JIMS Rohini successfully organized “DesignVerse: A UI/UX Challenge” on 18th September 2026 at the JIMS Auditorium, commencing from 11:00 AM onwards. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 124 students representing diverse academic backgrounds, including BBA, BCA, BA Economics, and MCA. The initiative was designed as an experiential learning activity that combined technical learning, creative exploration, teamwork, and problem-solving in an engaging environment.

The event commenced with a series of student-led mini sessions on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Figma, conducted by four student resource persons — Prachi, Gauri, Abhinav, and Harshit Pratap Singh from BCA second & final year. These sessions provided participants with a practical introduction to essential web technologies and UI/UX concepts. The student-led format encouraged peer learning and created an approachable environment where participants could understand concepts through demonstrations and interactive explanations.

The introductory sessions helped participants establish a foundation before moving into the main challenge. Students were introduced to the role of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in web interfaces and were subsequently familiarized with Figma as a collaborative UI/UX design and prototyping tool. The sessions were particularly useful for participants who were new to interface design, allowing them to gain sufficient familiarity with the tools and concepts required for the challenge.

The highlight of the event was the hands-on “Superpower of the Day” UI/UX Challenge. Participants worked in teams of two and were challenged to conceptualize and design a two-screen mobile application using Figma. The activity encouraged students to think beyond conventional solutions and use their creativity to develop interfaces that were both visually engaging and user-friendly.

During the challenge, participants brainstormed ideas, discussed user requirements, explored different design possibilities, and translated their concepts into digital screens. The activity provided students with an opportunity to apply principles of design thinking, user-centric design, visual organization, creativity, and collaboration within a limited timeframe. Rather than focusing solely on the visual appearance of the interface, students were encouraged to consider how effectively their designs addressed the needs of their intended users.

The interdisciplinary participation added significant value to the activity. Students from BBA, BCA, BA Economics, and MCA brought different perspectives to the design process, demonstrating how UI/UX can serve as a common platform connecting technology, business, economics, and creative thinking. The challenge enabled participants to combine their academic perspectives with digital skills while working towards a common design objective.

The competitive component of the event further enhanced student engagement and encouraged participants to put forward their most innovative ideas. Following the completion of the challenge, the designs were evaluated, and the top-performing teams were recognized for their creative approach and effective application of UI/UX principles.
