BA Economics (Hons) Orientation Programme 2026

The beginning of a university journey is not merely about entering a new classroom—it is about stepping into a world of possibilities, discoveries, aspirations, and transformative experiences. Marking this important milestone, Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini, warmly welcomed the newly admitted students of the B.A. (Hons.) Economics Batch 2026–30 through an engaging and inspiring Orientation Programme held on 19th August 2026.

The programme was organized under the able leadership of Dr. Praveen Arora, Principal & Dean, IP Affiliated Programs, and coordinated by Dr. Shivani Mehta, Faculty Coordinator. With around 70 enthusiastic students beginning their undergraduate journey, the orientation created a vibrant platform for students to connect with the institution, their faculty members, and the exciting opportunities that await them over the next four years. The session commenced with a warm welcome address, encouraging students to embark upon their academic journey with curiosity, discipline, confidence, and an active spirit of participation. This was followed by a ceremonial lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge and the beginning of a meaningful new chapter in the lives of the students.

A key highlight of the orientation was the comprehensive introduction to the academic ecosystem of JIMS and the B.A. (Hons.) Economics programme. Students gained valuable insights into the structure of their programme, curriculum, learning expectations, and the fascinating breadth of Economics as a discipline. From understanding the foundations of economic thought to exploring the diverse domains and possibilities within the field, students were encouraged to view Economics as a dynamic discipline closely connected with society, markets, policy, development, and everyday life. The orientation also provided students with an opportunity to meet the faculty members who will guide and mentor them throughout their academic journey. The Semester I courses and their respective faculty members were introduced, helping students begin their first semester with greater familiarity and confidence.

Beyond academics, students were introduced to the rich ecosystem of student engagement and experiential learning opportunities available at JIMS. The session highlighted the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), student clubs, research exposure, internships, competitions, skill-development initiatives, and institutional activities. Students were encouraged to actively participate in these platforms to develop creativity, leadership, teamwork, communication skills, and practical exposure alongside their academic learning.
