Vortex 2.0: Two-Day Student Hackathon on Innovation and Problem Solving


Vortex 2.0 was a two-day hackathon organized by the Geek Room JIMS team on 13th–14th April, 2026, with the objective of encouraging innovation, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving among students. The event provided participants with a platform to showcase their technical and analytical skills through competitive and practical challenges. The hackathon was guided by industry experts, including judges Kamal Kashyap and Sachin Jha, while mentorship support was provided by Arpit Singh and Umesh Kataria.

Day 1, titled “Hack Vortex,” focused on idea pitching and innovative solution development. Out of 50 registered teams, 25 teams comprising 75 participants actively competed by presenting solutions to real-world challenges. Team Metal Minds from JIMS Sector 5 won the competition for their AI-based sustainability solution for metal industries, while Inferno from JCC and The Pixel from JIMS Sector 5 secured the first and second runner-up positions respectively. Supreme and Quanta Labs from JIMS Sector 5 were recognized as the Best Idea Teams.

Day 2, “The Silent Query,” emphasized analytical thinking, coding, and SQL-based problem-solving through a mystery challenge and crime-based SQL case study. A total of 35 teams with 70 participants participated enthusiastically. Team Anonymous from JIMS Sector 5 emerged as the winner, followed by Illusion and Hoppers from JIMS Sector 5 as first and second runners-up. Pentonix and Internet Warrior were awarded as the Best Idea Teams.

The event successfully strengthened participants’ technical, analytical, and teamwork skills while exposing them to practical industry-oriented challenges. Organized smoothly under faculty supervision by the Geek Room JIMS team, Vortex 2.0 received highly positive feedback from participants for its engaging problem statements, mentorship support, and innovative learning experience. Overall, the hackathon proved to be a successful initiative in promoting technical excellence, creativity, and collaborative learning among students.
