Vortex 2.0: Two-Day Student Hackathon on Innovation and Problem Solving


Vortex 2.0 was a two-day hackathon organized by the Geek Room JIMS team on 13th–14th April, 2026, with the objective of fostering innovation, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving among students through competitive and practical technical challenges. The event successfully brought together enthusiastic participants who showcased their technical, analytical, and creative abilities while working on industry-relevant problem statements. The hackathon was conducted under the guidance of experienced professionals and industry experts. The judging panel included Kamal Kashyap and Sachin Jha, while mentorship support was provided by Arpit Singh and Umesh Kataria, who played a significant role in evaluating ideas and guiding participants with valuable industry insights.

The first day of the event, titled “Hack Vortex,” focused on idea pitching, development, and innovation. Out of 50 registered teams, 25 teams comprising 75 participants actively competed by presenting solutions to real-world challenges. The participating teams were evaluated on the basis of creativity, feasibility, innovation, and presentation skills. The team Metal Minds from JIMS Sector 5 emerged as the winner for their AI-based sustainability solution for metal industries. Inferno from JCC secured the position of first runner-up, while The Pixel from JIMS Sector 5 was declared the second runner-up. The teams Supreme and Quanta Labs, both from JIMS Sector 5, were recognized as the Best Idea Teams for their innovative approaches and problem-solving abilities. The first day witnessed strong participant engagement and the development of several practical and impactful solutions.

The second day of the event, “The Silent Query,” emphasized analytical thinking, coding skills, and SQL-based problem-solving. This round included a mystery challenge along with a crime-based SQL case study designed to simulate real-world data investigation scenarios. A total of 35 teams with 70 participants competed enthusiastically in this round. Team Anonymous from JIMS Sector 5 secured the winner’s position, while Illusion from JIMS Sector 5 became the first runner-up and Hoppers from JIMS Sector 5 secured the second runner-up position. Pentonix and Internet Warrior, both from JIMS Sector 5, were awarded as the Best Idea Teams for their outstanding analytical approaches and innovative execution. The event successfully enhanced the logical reasoning, coding, and database analysis skills of the participants.

Overall, Vortex 2.0 achieved several key outcomes, including strengthening students’ technical, analytical, and teamwork skills, providing exposure to real-world industry problems, and encouraging the development of innovative and practical solutions. The event also promoted healthy competition and active participation among students. The entire event was successfully organized by the Geek Room JIMS team under faculty supervision, ensuring smooth coordination and execution of all activities. Feedback from participants was highly positive, particularly regarding the innovative problem statements, engaging SQL-based challenges, and mentorship support provided throughout the event. Participants also suggested extending the duration of final rounds and increasing mentorship interaction sessions in future editions of the hackathon.

In conclusion, Vortex 2.0 proved to be a highly successful and impactful event that effectively fulfilled its objective of promoting innovation, technical excellence, collaboration, and practical learning. The hackathon provided students with an excellent platform to showcase their abilities, enhance their technical knowledge, and gain valuable real-world experience.
