On 15 April 2026, the Department of Management Studies organized an industrial visit for BBA First Year students to Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd., Sonipat, Haryana, with the objective of bridging classroom learning with real-world industrial exposure. A total of 71 students from BBA Shift I and Shift II participated in the visit under the guidance of faculty coordinators. The visit was designed to provide students with practical insight into manufacturing operations, quality control systems, supply chain efficiency, and marketing practices in the FMCG sector, with special focus on probiotic beverage production.
The visit commenced with an informative corporate presentation delivered by the company representatives, introducing students to the history, global presence, and business model of Yakult. Students were familiarized with the concept of probiotics and the scientific benefits of gut-health beverages, along with the company’s flagship product, Yakult Original, which contains approximately 6.5 billion Lactobacillus casei Shirota bacteria per bottle. The session also highlighted Yakult’s positioning in India as a functional health beverage brand and explained its unique marketing and distribution approach in the Indian market.
The most significant learning component of the visit was the live observation of the manufacturing process through the plant’s glass viewing gallery, which allowed students to witness industrial operations in a highly controlled and hygienic environment. Students observed the complete production cycle beginning with ingredient preparation, followed by sterilization, fermentation, mixing, bottle formation, automated filling, sealing, packaging, and cold storage. The fully automated production line demonstrated zero human contact in the critical manufacturing stages, reinforcing the importance of hygiene, contamination control, and operational precision in food and beverage manufacturing.
One of the key takeaways from the visit was the exposure to modern manufacturing practices such as automation, vertical integration, and lean production systems. Students observed that even the packaging bottles were manufactured in-house, offering a practical example of cost control and quality assurance through vertical integration. The visit also highlighted the role of temperature control, process standardization, and quality checks in maintaining product consistency and bacterial viability, giving students a direct understanding of production management and quality assurance concepts taught in class.
The industrial visit proved to be highly enriching from both academic and practical perspectives. It enabled students to connect theoretical subjects such as operations management, supply chain management, and marketing with actual industrial practices. The visit enhanced their understanding of how scientific innovation, business strategy, and production efficiency work together in a successful FMCG enterprise. Overall, the industrial visit to Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd. was an insightful and valuable learning experience that broadened students’ industry awareness and strengthened their practical understanding of business operations.
