The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), organized a workshop on “Basics of Research Paper Writing and Journal Publication Support” for Undergraduate (UG) students, with a special focus on encouraging BCA students to explore academic research and publication opportunities. The session was conducted by Dr. Deepti Khanna and aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of research methodology, academic writing, and the process of publishing research papers in reputed journals and conferences.
The workshop provided participants with a clear understanding of what constitutes a research paper and how it differs from regular academic assignments. Students were introduced to the structured format of a research paper, including Title, Abstract, Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Results, Conclusion, and References. Practical guidance was provided on how to identify research problems, study existing literature, and present research findings in a systematic and scholarly manner.
To make the session more engaging and practical, the workshop featured the inspirational journey of Kavyansh, a BCA final-year student who successfully published his research paper in an IEEE conference. He shared his experience of converting his final-year project into a research paper, selecting a relevant research problem, conducting a literature review, drafting the manuscript, and navigating the submission and peer-review process. His journey demonstrated how undergraduate students can actively contribute to research with proper guidance, dedication, and structured writing.
The session also introduced students to essential research tools and resources, including Google Scholar for literature search, citation styles such as APA and IEEE, and reference management tools like Mendeley. Participants were also made aware of plagiarism ethics, strategies for selecting appropriate journals, and the importance of publishing in credible indexing platforms such as UGC CARE and Scopus.
Overall, the workshop provided valuable insights into the research publication process, motivating UG students to develop research-oriented thinking and transform their academic projects into publishable research work. The session encouraged students to actively engage in innovation, research, and scholarly contributions within the academic community.
