The Department of Economics, under the Pre-Placement Club, organized an industrial visit to the Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd. manufacturing plant located in Sonipat, Haryana, on 15th April 2026. The visit was attended by B.A. (H) Economics students of 1st year, accompanied by faculty coordinators.
The visit commenced with a warm welcome by the Yakult plant officials, who provided an overview of the company's history, global presence, and its journey in the Indian market. Students learned that Yakult is a probiotic drink manufactured using a unique strain of bacteria, Lactobacillus casei Shirota, and that the brand has a strong scientific foundation rooted in preventive healthcare.
The guided plant tour allowed students to observe the complete manufacturing process — from raw material procurement and pasteurization to fermentation, bottling, quality testing, and cold-chain logistics. Officials emphasized the strict hygiene and food safety standards maintained at every stage of production in compliance with FSSAI and international quality benchmarks. This gave students direct insight into how quality control functions as a critical cost-management and brand-building tool.
The visit concluded with an interactive Q&A session in which students raised questions on topics ranging from cost structures and profit margins to sustainability practices and the competitive landscape of the probiotic industry. Students also received Yakult product samples, which made the experience all the more engaging. The visit was a highly enriching and immersive learning experience that brought economic concepts to life in a dynamic corporate environment.
