Ms. Divya Srinivasan provided an in-depth overview of the policymaking process, emphasizing the importance of structured analytical approaches in public policy formulation. She introduced students to key policy analysis frameworks, notably Bardach’s Eight-Step Path, and illustrated their practical relevance through a detailed case study on Delhi’s air pollution.

The lecture covered essential dimensions of policy analysis, including the identification of policy objectives, evaluation of trade-offs, and the critical role of data and evidence in informed decision-making. Ms. Divya also discussed important analytical tools such as cost–benefit analysis, econometric modelling, and stakeholder analysis, demonstrating how these tools are applied in real-world policy contexts.

The session enabled students to gain valuable insights into the role of economists in designing effective, equitable, and evidence-based public policies, while navigating challenges related to governance, political considerations, and implementation constraints. The lecture was highly informative and contributed significantly to enhancing students’ understanding of applied policy analysis.
