Objective of the Event: The session's primary goal was to give students in-depth information on intellectual property rights, patents, licensing, and industry-academia partnerships so they could comprehend the legal and strategic ramifications of turning research into solutions that are ready for the market.
JIMS IIC organized an insightful session on “Expert talk on TRL, Commercialization of Technology & Tech transfer” hosted by Ms. Jyoti Chauhan, 11:00 AM onwards in the B Building seminar hall B302 on 20th February 2025.
The event, "Expert Talk on TRL, Commercialization of Technology & Tech Transfer," featured Ms. Jyoti Chauhan, VP-IPR at a leading MNC in Noida, a seasoned expert in intellectual property rights (IPR), patents, and technology transfer. The session commenced with an overview of Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), where Ms. Chauhan explained their significance in assessing the maturity of innovations and guiding their transition from research to commercialization. She emphasized how TRLs assist companies and innovators in assessing if their ideas are viable for commercial use.
Furthermore, she also looked at how technology can be commercialized, by emphasizing the value of patent preparation, prosecution, and intellectual property protection. By providing information on patent research, infringement analysis, and licensing strategies, she assisted the participants in understanding the legal and business aspects of monetizing discoveries. In order to illustrate how businesses, entrepreneurs, and academic institutions may work together to commercialize inventions, technology transfer strategies and industry-academia alliances were also discussed.
The interesting Q&A at the end of session, gave participants practical information and viable strategies, where she offered valuable insights on IP administration, legal frameworks, and using the patents to expand an organization in order to effectively navigate intellectual property and technology commercialization.
Learning Outcomes: Participants gained knowledge about TRLs, technology commercialization, and tech transfer, along with IP protection, patent drafting, and licensing strategies. Their knowledge of patent searching, prosecution, and industry-academia partnerships was improved during the session, that enhanced their ability to handle and market ideas more successfully.
