JIMS Rohini Organized Free NCMC (chip-based) Metro Card Distribution Camp

Introduction

The NSS Cell of JIMS Rohini, in collaboration with Jeevan Aadhaar Suvidha Kendra and CSC e-Governance, successfully organized a Free NCMC (chip-based) Metro Card Distribution Camp on 16th April, 2025. The event was held in the Auditorium of A Block and enthusiastic participation from both students and staff was observed.

This initiative was aimed at empowering the JIMS community with digital access to seamless public transport across the country through the distribution of National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC). The chip-enabled smart cards are not only usable across 17 metro networks in India, but will soon be valid for DTC buses and parking facilities, ensuring integrated urban mobility.

Objectives-

  • To promote digital convenience and encourage the use of cashless public transport.
  • To facilitate a smooth transition from traditional metro cards to NCMC-enabled smart cards.
  • To raise awareness about the benefits of the National Common Mobility Card system.
  • To ensure that students and staff upgrade to the latest metro travel infrastructure before old cards are phased out.
  • To empower students with tools that support digital literacy and modern commuting systems.

Learning Outcomes

The primary learning objective of the Free Metro Card Distribution Camp was to educate students and staff about the use and benefits of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). Participants gained practical knowledge on how chip-based metro cards function and how they can be used seamlessly across multiple metro networks in India. They also learned how to recharge these cards through various digital payment platforms such as GPay, PhonePe, YONO, and SBI Unipay. Additionally, the event aimed to enhance awareness of the importance of digital infrastructure in public transport and the role of such initiatives in promoting sustainable, cashless, and smart commuting practices. This activity helped to foster digital literacy and emphasized the value of government-led technological advancements in daily life.

Conclusion

The Free Metro Card Distribution Camp at JIMS proved to be a successful and insightful initiative that aligned well with the goals of the NSS Cell. It offered a practical benefit to students and staff while simultaneously encouraging the use of modern, contactless, and inter-operable travel solutions. The event not only facilitated the transition from outdated non-chip cards to smart NCMC-enabled cards but also instilled a deeper understanding of the evolving digital ecosystem in India’s public transport sector. Overall, the camp reinforced JIMS commitment to combining education with real-world readiness and digital empowerment.
