Insight Forge: Data Analytics & Visualization Competition

Insight Forge was conceptualized and organized as a practical, skill-oriented competition aimed at enhancing data literacy and analytical competence among undergraduate students. In alignment with current industry requirements and the growing importance of data-driven decision-making, the event focused on enabling students to work with real datasets and transform raw data into meaningful insights through visualization tools.

Participants were provided with datasets in Excel format one day prior to the event, allowing adequate time for data familiarization, cleaning, and preliminary analysis. Students were given the flexibility to work individually or in teams of two, encouraging both independent problem-solving as well as collaborative learning. A total of 10 teams actively participated in the event, reflecting strong student interest in analytics-based learning activities.

Students were required to design an interactive and insightful dashboard using any one of the prescribed tools—Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or Tableau—based on their skill level and preference. The dashboards were expected to highlight key trends, patterns, and insights emerging from the dataset, along with logical interpretation and visual clarity.

On 22 November 2025, the participants presented their dashboards before a panel of judges. Each presentation involved an explanation of the analytical approach adopted, the choice of visualizations, and the major insights derived from the data. The presentation session also included a question-and-answer segment, during which judges evaluated students on their conceptual clarity, analytical reasoning, and communication skills.
