Objective of the Event: To educate students on different types of IPR, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and geographical indications, ensuring they are aware of their significance in protecting innovation.
The Institute Innovation Council of JIMS under the ATAL Labs Linkage initiative on 13th February 2025 organized an mentor session on Basics of IPR to protect innovation at Lancer’s Convent School, Prashant Vihar Delhi-110085 to promote awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The session aimed to educate students on the importance of intellectual property, trademarks, patents, and geographical indications, emphasizing their significance in safeguarding innovations. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Vaishali, who explained various aspects of IPR in a simplified and engaging manner.
The session was highly interactive and engaging, ensuring that the 9th-grade students actively participated in various activities. One of the highlights of the workshop was the trademark puzzle, where students identified famous logos from brands like Amul, Horlicks, Twitter, McDonald's, and Apple. This hands-on approach helped them understand the importance of trademarks in a fun and relatable manner. Sheets were distributed with trademark puzzles, making the learning process more engaging and effective.
Another key topic discussed was geographical indications (GI), where students learned about products like Darjeeling tea and Rasgulla, which have GI tags that protect their regional identity. Ms. Vaishali emphasized the importance of privacy in organizations and how companies can legally protect their intellectual property. The session provided students with a foundational understanding of how intellectual property and property rights are interconnected, helping them realize the value of protecting their creative ideas.
Overall, the interactive approach ensured that students remained engaged throughout the session while gaining valuable knowledge about IPR. Jim’s IIC Council, in collaboration with Lancer’s Convent School, successfully provided a platform for young minds to explore, learn, and understand the significance of intellectual property rights in today’s world.
