Workshop on Fundamentals of Modern Banking
On 12th July 2009 JIMS organized a Workshop on fundamentals of Modern Banking. Mr. C.M Khurana, General Manager, Oriental Bank Of commerce, Mr. A.K Poppli, Assistant General Manager, Oriental Bank of Commerce and Prof. Madan Mohan, Dean JIMS were the distinguished speakers. Prof. Madan Mohan initiated the discussion by discussing a letter written in 1861-more than 140 years ago on behalf of British Government and addressed to the Banks in that country. He further discussed the reason of Global financial crisis and praised RBI for comparative stability of Indian Banking System. Mr. C.M Khurana delivered on history of Indian Banking, Its phases, impact of Nationalization. He also discussed the impact of liberalization on Indian Banking system, challenges after nationalization and liberalization. He focused on the current financial situation of India in this economic downturn and impact of past policies on helping India hold strong. He further threw some light on risks in the Indian Banking system. . Mr. A.K Poppli talked about Role of Financial Intermediaries in Savings Mobilization and Financial Intermediaries in the Indian Financial System.
