Challenges faced by an Entrepreneur in starting a business on 28th January, 2012

As part of the ongoing efforts of JIMS E-cell “TARKASH” organized a session on the theme “Challenges faced by an Entrepreneur in starting a business “on 28th Jan, 2012 at JIMS Campus. More than 80 PGDM students and 20 BBA students attended the session.


Invited entrepreneur – Mr. Amit Sharma (CE0, Avenir labs and Vouchersmate.com)


Mr. Amit Sharma, a technopreneur with defence background and successful stint in UK IT outsourcing market in his early days, having achieved success in UK market, he has now decided to focus his effort on sunrise Indian market. He interacted with the students on Entrepreneurship. He discussed at length the following.


  • Why become an entrepreneur rather than do a job? He explained that even in a job you sell yourself in the interview and then provide services to the employer and get a certain take-home salary. But if you work for yourself, the earning potential is unlimited.
  • He emphasized on the importance of a business plan .He told it’s important since it summarizes both the vision for the company and the blueprint of the company success.
  • He discussed in detail about various problems when starting a venture- Raising capital, forming a team, selecting location, proper understanding of legal laws and being prepared for unexpected contingencies.
  • Why are bright Indian minds shying away from Entrepreneurship
  • He emphasized that as an entrepreneur, one needs to keep going even in adverse circumstances. “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” Nothing could be truer than this statement, especially in times as they are in the current scenario.
  • He advised the students to take the plunge in Entrepreneurship early since the opportunity cost is much less in the beginning.
  • He highlighted the importance of good marketing strategy and to value customer feedback. Customer satisfaction is paramount now a days since “Customer is King “

The students were took taking active part and many of their apprehensions were cleared after the session. Mr. Amit Sharma found the students intellectual competent and even offered internships in his organization.
