The Pedagogy

WE ENCOURAGE LEARNING THROUGH PRACTICE AND FOCUS ON HIGH ACADEMIA – CORPORATE INTERFACE

The students are provided a highly conducive learning environment with Wi-Fi enabled campus, fully air conditioned classrooms fitted with latest audio-visual teaching aids. Strong emphasis is placed on developing conceptual, entrepreneurial and leadership skills among the students. Students are regularly exposed to workshops, industrial trips and corporate visits. Faculty ensures that the latest practices and theories are regularly incorporated in the course curriculum. Apart from class lectures, various other means are used by the faculty to explain the theoretical concepts to the students. These include case studies, live projects, summer internship projects, presentations, role plays, etc. Since Retail and marketing are highly industry focussed areas, we ensure that students are provided substantial corporate interaction while learning. Few pedagogical approaches followed by us are discussed as below;

THEORATICAL LEARNING

The syllabus, course contents and subjects offered are regularly revised as per the industry requirements and according to their relevance among the employers. Our core and visiting faculty comprise of professionals, industry executives and academicians with experience in their relevant fields. All classrooms are Wi-Fi enabled and fitted with latest state of art teaching aids.

INDUSTRY INTERFACE

Regular interaction of the students with the industry is encouraged to keep them aware of the corporate work culture and environment. Students are taken to Store warehouses, Malls and factory visits for onsite workshops with the faculties, where they are explained about the various formats and functional areas of the business. Students also undergo short term live projects of 1-2 weeks duration with the organizations in the areas of marketing and retail. Apart from above, two months summer internship projects at the end of third trimester and final project during the sixth trimester also provides considerable practical learning to the students. Guest sessions are conducted by the store managers, industry executives and professionals who explain the students on various practical aspects in their respective fields. Students are also encouraged to participate in the workshops, seminars and conferences that are organized by other institutions and organizations.

PERSONALITY GROOMING

Considering the highly competitive environment, students are prepared and trained on various aspects of personality development and communication. Special sessions are conducted for body language, dress code and verbal or written communication so as to make them suitable according to corporate requirements. Non credit papers such as Environmental scanning and Leading through Knowledge have been introduced to inculcate leadership and team building skills among the students.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Looking at the recent trends of globalization and entry of large number of multinational retail firms in the sector, it is felt that foreign language is essentially required for the students. Presently German language is being taught in two trimesters to develop its verbal and written proficiency among the students. Options are also available for the Spanish and French languages depending upon the preferences.

CASE STUDY AND PRESENTATIONS

Strong emphasis is placed on case based teaching in nearly every subject. Case studies are discussed to enhance practical learning among the students in every subject. Students are also made to make presentation individually and in groups on various topics of the subject being taught.

PROJECT REPORTS

Projects reports as per the prescribed formats are prepared by the students under guidance of faculty instructor. The evaluation is done on the basis of viva-voce and report presentations.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

The summer internship of 6-8 weeks in the retail or marketing organizations considerable helps in gaining hand on experience of various theoretical concepts studied during the first year. It also helps in the understanding of corporate work environment and practices.
