Teaching Methodology

JIMS endeavours to make teaching participative and experiential. Learning process is intended to be student-centric and not teacher-centric meaning that the onus of learning is on the students. This essentially involves use of innovative pedagogy to be adopted by the faculty. Case studies, projects & presentations / viva, assignments, management games and role-plays are used extensively to achieve this objective. Students are encouraged to be fully involved in these activities to make use of their latent capabilities.

Foreign Business Language

JIMS firmly believes that knowledge of Foreign Business Languages is essential in the global corporate world of today. It thus offers Foreign Business Language courses from Trimester I through III. Every student is required to opt for one such language compulsorily. Apart from giving weight age in the evaluation system, a separate certificate of having elementary / working knowledge of language is also issued to successful candidates. The coverage of each language ensures its business applications so that the student can effectively converse and correspond in that language on various issues related to business management

Mentor Program

At JIMS we believe that the student-faculty interaction outside the classroom is very essential for the overall development of the students academically and also attitudinally. The students have three kinds of needs viz. academic, emotional and career needs. It is in the context of these needs, that the role of faculty, as a mentor, becomes crucial. Every student is assigned a faculty member as mentor who acts as a friend, philosopher and guide and helps in his / her development. Apart from the faculty mentor, it is being contemplated that every student should be given an opportunity to interact closely and continuously with the industry, through an industry-mentor.

Industry Visits

To sharpen the skills and provide the students with first hand information about the industry, industrial visits are organized by PGDM (IB) throughout the year. These industrial visits provide students the thorough insight of the working environment and work culture of the organization. These visits help our students to analyze the preference and the rejection of that particular industry.

GUEST LECTURES AND WORK SHOPS

Expert from the industry regularly visit our campus and interact with students. This helps them in gaining an insight in to the corporate world.

PROJECT REPORTS

As an integral part of the curriculum, students are required to work on a research project on a topic of their interest or specialization. This is an excellent opportunity for students to have close interaction with the industry-experts who often give them live projects to work on. On completion of their projects, the students are required to make presentation of their reports before the industry representatives, faculty members and students.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

The students are required to undergo summer internship for a period of six to eight weeks with reputed companies. This enables them to understand theoretical concepts learned at the Institute in a real-life corporate context. While working on live and time-bound projects, they gain first-hand experience of the corporate culture. The process helps them develop professional attitude, sense of responsibility, analytical ability and leadership qualities. It also helps the industry in assessing the student’s performance and potential, on the basis of which pre-placement offers are often made.

STUDENT CENTRIC LEARNING

Students initiate a number of activities through formation of academic clubs (Marketing, Finance, Human Resource and Information Technology), cultural club and sports club. They organize and conduct research and make presentations in the form of following activities:

  • Environmental Scanning
  • Strategic issues workshops
  • Industrial research projects
  • Corporate Checkmate -A Quarterly Lecture Series
  • Annual Seminars
  • Oasis - Annual Cultural Fest
  • Verve - Annual Inter-College cultural event
