
On Wednesday, July 1 2009, JIMS kick started PGDM session 2009-2011 with an orientation programme. Prof. R.P Maheshwari, Director General JIMS; Dr. J.K Goyal, Director JIMS; Dr V.B Aggarwal, Director IT and Dr. Madan Mohan, Dean along with other faculty members extended their heartiest congratulations and gave a warm welcome to the students.
All the dignitaries and students offered prayers to goddess saraswati via a serene and soothing saraswati vandana. The host of the event, Shikha, PGDM II year student set the ball rolling by inviting honorable Director General to share some of his experiences with the students.
Prof. R.P Maheshwari introduced the students to JIMS and its values. He said We at JIMS expect three things from the students i.e. Attitude, Ambition, and Action. He assured students about the super infrastructure, excellent faculty, rich library and well equipped computer labs. He emphasized on how demanding the course is in terms of both time and labour. He appealed to students not to be frightened by it, rather they should accept the challenge to work hard with discipline, determination, and dedication. He told students that besides classes they have to prepare regularly for seminars, presentations, case studies, paper writing contests, class tests, environment scanning, summer training and so on. This all will help in their overall personality development. He asked students to be work oriented and not job oriented as job always follow merit. He assured students that JIMS would always live upto their expectations and is always there to solve their problems.
Dr. J.K Goyal, the Director was the next speaker who addressed the batch as 9/11 batch, He emphasized that 9/11 changed the course of USA and he expects this 09-11 batch to change the course of JIMS history, of course in a positive sense. Dr Goyal took students to the post independence era, highlighted the formation of UGC and transition from government funded schools and colleges to private education. He gave a taste of History of Indian Economy to the would be Business Professionals. Liberalization, Privatization and globalization formed the major part of discussion. He further extended economics to the demand and supply equation of MBA graduates and resulting mushrooming growth of educational institutes providing professional education. Further he drew attention to the heterogeneity of PGDM batch. He also encouraged students to cultivate, sharpen their entrepreneurial skills for which JIMS harbor Entrepreneurial cell "Tarkash" .
Director IT, Dr. V.B Aggarwal introduced a unique definition of PGDM to the audience. He said PGDM is nothing but a transition, a phase which grooms an individual from a student to a professional and that's what JIMS try to achieve that too with excellence. He also stressed on the growing importance of IT in the industry.
Dr. Madan Mohan, Dean JIMS extended 'Vote of Thanks' to all the speakers for their valuable advices and he wished good luck to students for both academic and professional growth. With this the very energetic and informative session came to end, students progressed towards their respective class rooms.
